Yelena's recent project was inspired by social media. She wanted to explore its influence on artistic process. To get the maximum out of a few seconds of attention she could get online, Yelena decided to create provocative images that triggered enough emotion to press the like button or follow her account. She started the visual diary in 2016. The concept was to capture her daily artistic practice and make at least one artwork a day. This idea was borrowed from Julia Cameron’s handbook The Artist’s Way. It became an exercise in resourcefulness that is a method in itself.
In this series Yelena Myshko comments on beauty standards in her signature dirty realist style.
